Kara + David-Engaged/ Memphis Wedding Photographer

Kara + David are complete dolls. I know I say that often, but that doesn’t discredit how precious these babes are.

(I’ll just pretend I didn’t shoot these back in June. Better late than never, right?)

Kara contacted me about her wedding when John and I were still living in San Francisco. I assured her I’d be back in Memphis long before then, and she told me she was considering October 22nd as a potential wedding date. That also happens to be John and my anniversary, so right away I felt like it was meant to be.

There aren’t enough letters in any alphabet in the world for me to describe how amazing it would be for us to be able to shoot on our anniversary. When Kara confirmed the date and hired us, we jumped for joy.

Kara and David wanted to do some of their engagement photos at The Junior League, where they actually got married just a few weeks ago. We then headed down to the river to end their session. This was actually the first time we’d ever met Kara and David in person. They were just as charming as we imagined, but extremely much taller than we thought. I’m talking supermodel height. I am a pretty average height, on a good day, I’m 5’7. John is also a giant– 6’2, but he was NO match for David who soared above him. More like, Goliath, huh? (As I get older, my jokes get more corny, but that’s funny right there, you know it.)

Kara and David both had the best outfit choices, and Kara’s makeup was stunning thanks to the very talented Kasey Acuff. There is a reason everyone refers to her as “Queen Kasey.” It’s a super good idea to have her do your makeup for your engagement photos so you can figure out what photographs well, and who doesn’t just love feeling fancy when you’re being photographed.

Kara and David, thank you for being so wonderful and allowing us to be a part of the most special time in your lives! We cannot wait to share your wedding!

Melanie + Colin- Wedding/ Memphis Wedding Photographer

Melanie + Colin are the epitome of timeless. Their wedding attire, floral arrangements, accessories, invitation suite, and reception details almost stopped my rapid beating photographer’s heart.

Melanie got ready at her parent’s lovely home in Germantown, Tennessee. We spent the morning documenting her details as Kasey Acuff did Melanie’s makeup- which lasted the entire evening, even after dancing the night away.

We were lucky enough to be able to photograph beautifully hand watercolored invitations from Jenn Gietzen. We’re still swooning over those.

Melanie and Colin were married at Germantown United Methodist under a cascading arrangement by the talented Holliday Flowers. They had their reception at Ridgeway Country Club.

Melanie and Colin made the smart decision to see each other before their ceremony, which enabled them to have a few private moments together before the ceremony. This also allowed them to finish with formal photos almost immediately after the ceremony which enabled them to get to their reception super quickly. They were greeted by the talented Holly Hardin, of The Hardin House and joined right in on the party.

The Flour Garden provided the most beautiful and creative cakes we’ve ever seen. The bride’s cake was adorned with florals and real figs that photographed beautifully, and the groom’s cake was made to look exactly like a Yeti cooler. Melanie and Colin’s guests were flipping out over its realistic qualities, so much so, someone tried to open it. We’ve never been more entertained by a band at a reception than when we watched Az IzZ from Atlanta. They performed their hearts out and had Melanie and Colin’s wedding guests on their feet until the pom pom exit.

One of our favorite moments from Melanie and Colin’s special day was their first look. They both had stars in their eyes and tears on their cheeks. They powered through the August heat and got some of the most beautiful portraits we’ve ever seen.

Melanie and Colin, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be a part of your most special day! We adore you both!

Maribeth + Adam- Engaged/ Memphis Wedding Photographer

We’re SO glad that Maribeth and Adam are one of our 2017 KGP couples.

The first time we met with them, John and I just knew we HAD to shoot their wedding. They are so kind, so genuine, so intentional, and so very much in love. They are both so comfortable together which is so important. As we chatted about their March, 2017 wedding, we couldn’t help but feel like we were all old friends just catching up. These guys finish each other’s sentences, and we love that about them.

Maribeth is a teacher and wanted to get her engagement session done before work got too crazy. We did these in August, and man, it was a scorcher that day. We have to hand it to Maribeth and Adam for never complaining and still being champs, even though the heat was almost unbearable.

We used Maribeth’s parent’s property for their engagement session, and although she was unsure initially about if that was the right spot, we’re ALL so glad she did because this is one of our all time favorite engagement sessions. We started under a tunnel that is an active railroad. It photographed so beautifully. John and I absolutely love getting to shoot at different spots, and this one takes the cake. As if the Harry Potter inspired tunnel wasn’t beautiful enough, we got to play in a charming field as well. The session ended with a stunning sunset that we just HAD to geek out over, as Maribeth twirled the night away. It’s so obvious why this session is one of our very favorites!

Maribeth and Adam, THANK you so much for letting us be a part of this special time in your lives. Hurry up, March!

Marcie+Zach- Spring Creek Ranch Wedding/ Memphis Wedding Photographer

Marcie and Zach had one of our all time favorite engagement sessions. Remember?

I gushed over how much John and I absolutely adore both Marcie and Zach. When we arrived at Spring Creek Ranch on these love bird’s special day, we were pleasantly surprised to see Marcie sporting fire engine RED hair. She absolutely rocked it in her stunning Maggie Louise gown. I’m sure most wedding blogs would advise against dying your hair a totally different color just weeks before your wedding, but you know what-when you know, you just know. I absolutely love the contrast of Marcie’s deep red hair against the bright green trees out at Spring Creek.

Zach was so calm and so ready to just get to hang out with Marcie all day. One thing I don’t think bride and grooms actually think about that decide against a first look, is that they are not actually getting to be with their significant others all day. I know Marcie and Zach are SO glad they did a first look. They got to take advantage of Spring Creek’s gorgeous course, and spend the day laughing with each other.

Marcie and Zach’s bridal party turned heads in their deep navy dresses and light blue long sleeve shirts paired with soft grey vests.

One of our all time favorite aspects about Marcie and Zach’s wedding was their jaw dropping vintage ladder alter. Marcie and Zach’s wedding guests could not stop swooning over what a statement it made. Marcie and Zach took advantage over Propcellar’s wonderful props, which everyone went on and on about. Since Marcie and Zach are such dog lovers, it only made since that their cake topper include fondant replicas of their little fur babies – another huge wow factor to all of their guests!

Marcie and Zach, we can’t thank you enough for allowing us to spend your day right alongside of you!

Nikki + Kevin Barre-Mid-Century Modern Wedding/ Memphis Wedding Photographer

A year ago today, I was sweating mega bullets. Why? Because I was gearing up to shoot KEVIN BARRE’S wedding, people. Kevin Freaking Barre.

Remember he and Nikki’s (my most favorite human on earth) engagement session (it’s worth a refresher course, trust me.)

In case you’ve been hiding under a large rock, Kevin is also a wedding photographer. As I mentioned in their engagement session post, John and I tried to beg Kevin to shoot our wedding but he was booked, as he always is. My mom called him multiple times “making sure” he was booked on that date, but let’s be honest, when is Kevin NOT booked. #TRUTH

Nikki has become one of my very best friends over the last two years. I knew the moment I met her we were going to be great friends. She’s the life of the party, all that AND a bag of chips, the bee’s knees, and everyone’s best friend. Naturally, Nikki never leaves anywhere without turning a stranger into a friend. Nikki wore the most gorgeous Watters gown she got from Barefoot Bride. Nikki loved her Barefoot Bride experience SO much, she now works there. She now gets to spend the happiest moments every day with brides saying YES to the dress. I can’t think of anyone more suited for such an amazing job.

Kevin and Nikki tied the knot at the most beautiful private residence in Memphis, Tennessee. The home belonged to Scot Robinson of Pavo Salon, he also did Nikki’s hair, which was SO Gatsby-esque. He is extremely talented AND has amazing taste. I nearly drooled over his home and style the whole day. Nikki’s flawless makeup was done by Kasey Acuff, because WHO else would have done it?! I had a serious crush on her perfect eyeliner wings, truly, it’s what dreams are made of. The stunning florals were done by none other than Lynn Doyle Flowers, who is always going above and beyond what the bride could ever dream. Lynn Doyle even tied a precious charm with a photo of Nikki’s brother on her bouquet so he could also be with her all day. It’s the little things like that, that make your day so special. The stationary was done by Dixon Printing and photographed so beautifully. We were entertained by the talented Jimmy Harris of DeepBlu Entertainment and fed a delicious meal and dessert by CFY Catering, who never disappoint.

Since Kevin and Nikki are both wedding professionals, they knew the importance of prioritizing their day around bride and groom photos. I can’t stress how important this is. We got to take our time and take some of the most gorgeous images we’ve ever seen, thanks to Kevin and Nikki’s great planning. The weather was similar to today, not terribly hot, a nice breeze, and gorgeous natural light. Scot’s home provided ample opportunity for a variety of stunning images. I was ready to move in before the day was over.

Kevin and Nikki danced the night away with only their closest friends and family, and we’re so happy we made that list. It was a dream day, and we feel so thankful we were a part of it.

Kevin and Nikki, happy one year anniversary. We cherish our friendship with you both, and love you to pieces.
