It only took me an entire year to blog this GORGEOUS wedding that was featured on Wedding Chicks, here!

Remember these babes? And Katharine’s stunning bridal session?

It’s easy to say that this is one of our very favorite weddings.

These young lovers have been together for nearly a decade and finally tied the knot at the stunning Spring Creek Ranch, a private country club located in Collierville, Tennessee. This venue was beyond perfection for their light and romantic wedding, with gorgeous natural light that pours through the entire building. The mood was chic, romantic, and airy. Katharine, while absolutely stunning, is just as charming. You’ll see in the photos that she is one if the very few who can make a ridiculous face AND still look beautiful. She and Logan spend most of their time cracking up together, as they did from the moment they saw each other during their first look. It’s no secret that these two know how to have a good time.

I’m sure you could only imagine my face when I saw Katharine’s Liancarlo gown from Maggie Louise. I’ve never seen such a perfect fit. I nearly had to be revived when I saw the bridesmaid’s dresses from Rent The Runway. Pair those champagne colored sequins with one of Ashlye McCormack’s masterpieces, and you have magic my friend. And if you find yourself wondering WHY each and every person’s makeup looks so flawless? You already know it’s because the Q. (short for Queen) Kasey Acuff is a magician.

One of my favorite memories from Katharine and Logan’s special day was when they high-fived after they kissed, how’s that for sign, sealed, delivered? As soon as their ceremony was over, the two newlyweds slipped off to have a moment, and when they returned, Katharine was wearing her red converse. Not only is she absolutely stunning, she is also the girl next door as well. She’s considerate, kind, and generous with her time with those she loves. This couple had a wedding as fabulous as they are, and John and I consider ourselves lucky they allowed US to document it.

OK, enough from me, now enjoy these sweet moments!

Before we moved to San Francisco, the overly talented Toni from Spring Creek Ranch, informed us Southern Bride was having a contest and asked us to photograph her dreamy styled shoot. Without hesitation, we agreed, and I’m SO glad we did, because this shoot was one of the winners! (Check it out in the current issue of Southern Bride.)

Toni, and her staff worked so hard to pull this shoot off (along with all of the other talented vendors mentioned at the end of this post.)

Thanks, Spring Creek Ranch for allowing us to capture these dreamy images!

Enjoy!

Monday world, meet Natalie and Grant. John and I are SO excited to be doing another Rash wedding. Remember these babes?

Natalie is Kelly’s sister (and twin, basically.) The Rash family knows how to throw a party, and we’d expect nothing less for Natalie and Grant.

A few things: Natalie and Grant are ADORABLE. They are basically high school sweethearts who overcame a long distance college relationship (no easy task!) These guys have been together for over FIVE years.  Grant proposed to Natalie last March at Seagrove Beach while they were on vacation, and of course, she said yes. It’s been SO fun seeing Natalie’s wedding festivities, showers, her asking her bridesmaids to join her in her bridal party, their engagement session was a blast, and seeing the progress of their reception venue has both of us DROOLING. We simply cannot wait for June to get here!

Some places you may find these cuties if you’re looking, the Grove on game day, pure barre, (if you’re looking for Natalie solo, haha) on a sandy beach, or just being adorable together which is 24/7.

One things for sure, the Rash family did something right raising their girls, and I know Grant’s family is tickled pink to be getting such a gem addition. We can’t wait to meet Grant’s family as well, and celebrate these two deserving souls!

Natalie and Grant, thank you for allowing us to capture sweet memories for you! Hurry up, June.

Makeup by none other than the Queen herself, Kasey Acuff.

I have the cutest engagement session about to unfold for you here, THE cutest. You hear me?

Meet Paul and Chloe. Backstory: (Because I can’t do anything without a backstory, you people know me.)

Paul is my best friend’s (of almost 20 years) little brother. In a way, he feels like my brother too. I know, he’s SO handsome isn’t he? I can say this, because we’re related-ish.

I was always invited on summer vacays with the Chyka family, since Erika and I (Paul’s sister) are besties. So many of my memories include Paul. After church, Paul would always ask to go to Cici’s and everyone in the car would yell “NOOOOO.” I remember when Erika and I first started “playing” (hahahahahahah) I would say “maybe you should come over to my house, your brother scares me.” (Sorry Paul, I promise I’ll paint the gorgeous picture of the man you are today as well.) He used to charge on all fours, like Tarzan, right at me. I was always worried he was actually going to hurt me, and I was double his size. I remember he could make his dad laugh so hard he would CRY over singing the Pokemon, Jiggly Puff song. I remember his punk rock phase where the Chykas took a trip to drop Paul and his friends off at Warp Tour. I remember going to the beach with the Chykas (I mean, at this point you may be wondering if they are my adopted family, yes, they are) and Paul asking “Hey, can you turn on TBS- MDS” which meant, Taking Back Sunday- Make Damn Sure, and jamming out to Ocean Avenue, by Yellowcard. For as long as I’ve known Paul he has LOVED music. In fact, I remember riding with the Chykas to drop Paul off at piano lessons.

To this day, Paul and Chloe (don’t worry, I’ll get to her in just a second) are very involved in music. In fact, they have their own band (with their church) called Redemption Music. I just purchased their album, and I cannot wait to receive it.

Both Paul and Chloe are some of the most selfless people you’ll ever meet. I mean that, whole heartedly. They will give you the shirts OFF of their back without hesitation. The first time I met Chloe, was at Erika’s wedding, almost four years ago. I had a feeling she’d be around for a while, and I’m so glad I was right. I remember thinking “that must be Erika’s makeup artist.” Haha, Chloe’s makeup is always so fresh, and so bold. I love her style, her hair, her eyelashes, her tattoo, basically everything about her. She is (and Paul) the kind of person who makes you want to be better. At life, at loving, at everything. Those are the best kind of people.

I am SO looking forward to their wedding this May in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Paul and Chloe, we love you dearly. Thank you for giving us the honor of documenting your special day.

(The picture above has nothing to do with this post, it’s pretty and makes me happy, that’s all!)

Ok, I’ve been wanting to blog about this for as long as I can remember, but due to lack of time, it has been on the back burner. Today is the day I am going to put it all out there.

Let me start by saying this: This post is NOT an attack on videographers, or any other vendors for that matter. When my brides ask me if I think they should hire a videographer, my answer is as always, yes find one that you can’t live without, and hire that person/company.

Today I was casually scrolling through Facebook. I belong to so many “photographer” related groups that sometimes I’ll spend 30 minutes looking through an album and I don’t even know the people in the images OR the photographer for that matter. I’m sure a lot of photographers do this as well. As I was scrolling I noticed a wedding album. I quickly started scanning through all of the images, grinning from ear to ear seeing how happy this bride and groom were. It didn’t take long for my grin to turn into concern, and my concern to turn into anger. During this couple’s sweet ceremony, there was barely even a handful of images where the videographer wasn’t basically right beside the couple or directly behind the couple. It was very distracting.

NOW, I don’t know this couple. I don’t know this videographer. Potentially, this couple could have requested this for all I know, but I do know the 120+ weddings I have documented, I can tell you that none of my bride and grooms would have liked ANY vendor that close to them/ that visual throughout the duration of their ceremony. [YES, I have had quite a few of my couples request photos of their first kiss on the opposite side (me facing the guests, basically where the minister stands) and YES, I do walk around as unobtrusively as possible during ceremonies. I wear dark or neutral colors to cause the least amount of distraction I possibly can. If I have to sit I sit as low to the ground during the ceremony, to stabilize myself and my camera, and to ensure I’m not standing in the aisle throughout the entire ceremony. A lot of times, I even turn around backwards and give a thumbs up or down to the videographer I work with to ensure I am not in all of their footage.] In my opinion (yes, I am allowed to have one of those) it seems there was a GIANT lack of communication between the bride and groom and their videographer, or a lack of communication between the photographer and the videographer, or maybe, a lack of communication between them all. Hey, it happens, we are all humans, but there is no way that the couple I’m referring to can look through their images and be happy that their videographer is in almost every single image. For this very reason, my contract states “I am not responsible for the actions of other vendors.” and honestly, it’s sad that it has to be that way.

Here’s my thoughts/advice: (take it or leave it, it’s free either way)

We as wedding vendors should ALL be Team Bride and Groom. Let’s remember WHO we are there for, and not trample on those who have the same common goal as we do. Take turns with the other vendors who also have a job to do. I’ve worked with videographers who have shoved me, pushed me down, spit on me, and John’s almost been punched by one, and AS crazy as that sounds, I’ve also worked with videographers who have HELPED me get the shot I desired. I’ve had videographers that have held lights for me, grabbed my bag as I ran to a different location, assist with hanging the dress, and I’ve even had a few SAVE my @$$ before. So let me be crystal clear here, communication is the KEY to success. And by success I mean excellent products from both your videographer AND your photographer. You don’t want to LOVE your wedding images, but HATE your wedding cinematography, or vise-versa.

I’ve spoken to several other wedding professionals about this, both videographers AND photographers. One videographer told me they were once approached by a wedding photographer who they had never met and the first exchange of words from the photographer was “Are you going to be in my way today?” This is not ok, folks. A photographer isn’t more important than a videographer, and a videographer isn’t more important than a photographer. WHY? Because the bride and groom hired BOTH, meaning, they are counting on BOTH to do their very best jobs and DELIVER the products they were promised.

My good friend and photographer Kevin Barre had this to say about communication between vendors: “The best tack is to make sure you stress that it’s all about making great images for the clients. Great images AND great video. You can’t do that if you are ignoring the other vendors. Everything we do on the wedding day should be about making the best experience for the couple. Working closely together, making sure we all have each other’s backs, is the best way to accomplish that.”

So bride and grooms, lets make sure all of our vendors are on the same page, and that page is YOU.

XOXO

(Don’t agree with this post, then you’re probably one of the problems!)
