2018- you were one WILD, BUSY, FANTASTIC, CHAOTIC, BLISSFUL, INSANE, LOVELY, hell of a year. John and I shot 47 weddings this year, and as we’ve gotten older, we can’t help but become more attached to all of our couples and their sweet families. I’ll never stop pinching myself over the fact that we are chosen to document the most special day of these amazing people’s lives. What an honor. I’ll say that again- WHAT AN HONOR. 2018 taught me a lot of things, but the most important thing it taught me was to be present. Be present in all the moments I’m surrounded by, to (as Taylor Swift would say) “capture it, remember it.”

There are SO MANY IMAGES in this post, at least one image from every single wedding we were a part of. I also added in five other significant moments- in the order they happened: 1. My best friend of almost 27 years became a mother, and I got to document her precious newborn. 2. Another best friend launched her very own wedding blog which has completely taken off in all of the right ways. 3. Another best friend opened her own law firm (and she’s under 30) talk about a #girlboss. 4. My sister had her last child, Matthew Bennett Whitworth who completely stole our hearts. And last but surely not least #5. We brought on Madi (who started as an intern) as our full time family associate photographer. This time next year, she’ll have her own 2019 year in review- watch out Memphis, everything this girl touches is pure gold.

I never like saying much in these year in reviews, the images speak for themselves, so I’ll leave you all with these words:

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our 2018 couples and their families. Thank you for choosing us, for trusting us, for loving us, and for supporting us. John and I are so thankful that YOU have given us the opportunity to live out our passion, hand in hand. To our social media friends, THANK YOU for double tapping all of our posts, pretending we’re funny, and commenting on our images so we don’t get lost in the ever changing Instagram algorithm. Y’all are the real MVP’s.

2018- thank you, NEXT.

The Memphis Botanic Garden was SUCH a perfect location for Kelsey and Brian’s engagement session. This girl LOVES flowers, and we knew JUST the spot.

Meet Kelsey and Brian, aren’t they ADORABLE?! Believe me when I say Kelsey may actually be a long lost sister of mine. Haha. Kelsey and I clicked instantly when she and her precious mom met with us initially. I just wanted to be her bestie for life. Throughout their engagement, Kelsey and I have become great friends and I am so thankful for that. Kelsey is SO stylish. She’s one step ahead of all the trends, and always has been. I just drool over her wardrobe. If Kelsey looks familiar to you, it may be because she is the new owner of the Memphis Bella Bridesmaids. I can’t think of a better fit for such an awesome company. Kelsey is so knowledgeable on all things fashion, she is so kind, confident, and a joy to be around. Bella Bridesmaids is SO lucky to have her.

When we started Kelsey and Brian’s engagement session, you could tell Brian was a bit nervous. Let’s be honest, most guys don’t “love” having their photos taken, but I promised him it would be fun. John happened to bring up video games and Brian came alive! Now when John has free time he actually gets to play PUBG with Brian. Don’t ask me what PUBG is, cause I surely have no idea, haha!

We always love asking our couples about how the proposal went down. We loved hearing it from Kelsey’s perspective:

“So every year my grandmother’s WHOLE family goes to Caruthersville, MO for a family Christmas party and parade. This year we just went to a lunch before the parade. All of my cousins left early. I was jealous because they were “putting on a show in the parade for my grandma.”- I wanted to be part of it. Little did I know what they were planning. I looked up and here they come walking with a banner that read “All I want for Christmas is you… will you *Merry* Me?”  When I realized what was happening, I dropped all the good candy I had just picked up and he was down on his knee. IT WAS A FAIRYTALE!”

It’s only fitting that Kelsey and Brian have a winter wedding to go with their winter proposal. Kelsey and Brian are getting married THIS weekend at The Cadre, and we CANNOT wait to be a part of it. Sweet Kelsey truly treats us like family and we just adore her and Brian both.

You guys enjoy!

Kelly Ginn Photography has one giant announcement….

Drumroll please!!!!!

Our assistant Madi, who has been with us for two years will now be our associate family photographer! (Cue the confetti cannons… because you know at the Ginn household we always have an abundance of confetti!)

In our earlier years of business, our portfolio was so diverse. We photographed literally everything under the sun: newborns, families, live births, birthday parties, maternity sessions, sessions with fur babies, etc. Since both John and I photograph anywhere from 40-50 weddings a year (on top of engagement sessions) we were constantly having to turn away any other type of session. It truly made our hearts sad, because as much as we wanted to take on more, our wedding schedule just didn’t allow it. We realized Madi was so natural around people, and loves children (I mean this girl has the magic touch when it comes to being around kiddos, and that is a gift!) For the past two years, Madi has worked with us at weddings and has learned to shoot and edit just like John and I. It came ALL too natural to Madi, which is no surprise, because everything she touches is pure gold.

Below you will find SEVERAL examples of recent family sessions Madi has photographed and edited. We are SO proud of Madi and how quickly she mastered this trait. There is so much more to come, and we cannot wait for you to see Madi’s talent.

Madi is now taking any type of portrait session, please inquire for more information!

Angela Snodgrass - Hi! I am praying you have availability for a family session for myself, my husband and our 15 month old sometime during the week of July 6-13th?? I would love to book you ASAP. We realized we haven’t had family photos taken since my little guy was a newborn. My husband has that week off from work, so we would love to be able to find time then. Feel free to email or call/text with info! Thanks so much!ReplyCancel

Who doesn’t love a downtown Memphis engagement session? Meet Anna and Mack, and get ready to fall in love with them both.

On December 12th, 2017 I posted a super funny inquiry on my Instagram story where a future bride reached out in a hilarious fashion. The inquiry read “I know, I know. I’m not engaged yet, but a bish gotta do what a bish gotta do.” Anna replied to my story and said “I honestly think about sending you an inquiry like this about once a week. Just know that as SOON as I have a ring, you’re going to be the first vendor I contact.” Little did we know, just a FEW days later, Mack would propose to Anna.

Before I get to the proposal (which was EPIC) I have to tell you about Anna and Mack’s first date. It’s definitely one of our favorites we’ve ever heard. Would you believe me if I told you these two cuties first bonded over margs and guac at Babalu? Well you better believe it because it’s 100% the truth. Anna and Mack love Mexican food about as much as John and I. They love Mexican food SO much that Babalu is catering their wedding THIS WEEKEND! (Weddings AND tacos…. what could be better?)

Now, on to the proposal. Anna and Mack took a cruise in to Jamaica in December of 2017. Here’s how Anna said the proposal went down”

Anna: “Mack asked me in the beginning of 2017 if I wanted him to buy a house for us or if I wanted him to propose. I was trying to be responsible and make the “adult” decision, so I told him to buy the house. It just made more sense financially. Later that year, Mack agreed that we should take a trip over Christmas. He had never been out of the country or on a cruise so I was so excited to play “tour guide” and make this the best trip he’s ever been on! I am a planner by nature, so this was a dream come true for me. My sisters were constantly asking if I thought he was going to propose on the trip but I was planning everything so how would he be able to do that? I wasn’t even going to get my nails done, but my boss made me go with her the Friday before I left so they would be done “just in case”. A few days before we left for the trip, I received an email from our insurance agent with a new jewelry policy binder. I was convinced then that he was going to propose on the trip, but when I asked Mack about the email he played it so cool and was so calm I truly believed him when he said it must have been a mistake. He even had the insurance agent email me and tell me it was a mistake. I was a little disappointed but Mack did ask me if I wanted the house or a ring and I picked house! The first day of a cruise you have to wait for your bags to be delivered to your room, and Mack was so worried that our bags were taking a long time. I thought it was just because he had never been on a cruise and didn’t know about the time frame, but I later found out it was because the ring was in his suitcase! I was bugging him on the first day, telling him that the excursion I had planned for the next day, a “private” sail boat trip, would have been the perfect time to propose. He said he thought I was onto him at that point, but I was genuinely just being annoying. The next day, on the sail boat, there were a few more people than I thought would join us but we were in the middle of Caribbean on a tiny boat and it was beautiful so I could not complain. At one point, there was a rainbow over the water, so I asked one of the girls on the boat with us to take our picture in front of it. I was looking at the pictures she had taken and Mack disappeared down below the deck and he was gone for a long time. He finally came back up and wanted to take another picture, which is out of character for him, I’m usually the one asking to take pictures. So, we grabbed the same girl and asked her to take our picture on the front of the boat, and that’s when Mack got down on one knee. I honestly don’t remember much about the next few moments, but the girl taking our picture was going crazy she was so excited to be involved. She did a great job for being a random girl we didn’t know! I’m not even sure that I said yes, I think I just said “Are you serious?” and “It’s so big!” about fifty times. The rest of our trip was so wonderful because we didn’t have cell service so no one but us knew and we were really able to enjoy being engaged between the two of us, before we got into the crazy of celebrating with family friends. It was so perfect.”

Is that not the best? Just proof sometimes you CAN have your cake and eat it too, or in this case, a house, AND a giant sparkly ring.

John and I always like to ask our couples what their most favorite memories are about each other. Anna and Mack both said very similar things, but the way Mack ended his made me smile so big.

Mack: “My favorite memories are pretty much anything we did downtown last year. We would go walk around downtown and stumble our way into new places and views. From Loflin Yard to watching the sunset by the river and taking our dog on walks, I just loved everything that we were able to do that year.

Talk about adorable. It’s clearly evident that Anna and Mack are perfectly content just being together. It doesn’t matter if they are sitting at home binge watching Netflix, or exploring new restaurants and bars, together is where they prefer to be.

Anna and Mack are getting married this weekend at Holy Rosary and their reception is at The Dixon Gallery and Gardens. We simply CANNOT wait to be a part of their most special day. Y’all leave these guys some love!

The Dixon Gallery and Gardens is one of Memphis’ most charming venues.

Do you guys remember these cuties?! Of course you do. Jennifer and Travis are way too adorable to forget. A giant part of our job is investing in our couples, learning about them as individuals but also learning about them as a couple. It’s one of our most favorite parts of our job because we feel it ensures we can accurately tell each couple’s story in a way that truly reflects who they are. What’s ironic is, both John and I feel like Jennifer and Travis took the time to also get to know us on a personal level, and for that, we feel so thankful.

When we arrived at the hotel Jennifer was getting ready at, we were greeted like we were old friends. Even Jennifer’s sweet family made us feel like we were a part of their family. Sometimes we still can’t believe this is what we get to do for a living. Kasey Acuff was there to do Jennifer and her bridesmaid’s makeup. Jennifer and Travis got married in September, but it was oddly warm for that time of year. Thankfully, because Kasey did their makeup, these ladies looked like queens all night, despite the heat. Jennifer wore a stunning gown from Maggie Louise and Jennifer’s guests complimented her all night about it. Lynn Doyle Flowers and Events made such statement centerpieces and bouquets, per usual. CFY provided the most delicious food with amazing presentation which kept each guest coming back for more. DeepBlu Entertainment kept the dance floor packed even despite the heat. All in all, the night was completely magical.

Jennifer and Travis did a first look which allowed them to use all of the Dixon’s gorgeous locations. These guys got to spend the entire day laughing with each other which is one of the many benefits of a first look. We got to shoot alongside VMWedding Studio and Jennifer and Travis’ video was exceptional, per usual.

Jennifer and Travis, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to a part of such a special time in your lives. We enjoy watching all of the journeys marriage has taken you on!
