2019- The year of growth!

I’d like to start this post by saying you should never compare your life to someone else’s social media. Rarely do you see people post/talk about what went wrong, what they didn’t accomplish, or tough life lessons they‘ve learned. My friends and followers know my theme this year has been “no rain, no rainbows” so I’m here to recap our life in 2019. The rainbows, the rainy days, the sunny days, and the darkest storms.

This year, 54 couples trusted us in capturing their most important day. That’s about 5 more weddings than we’ve ever done in one year. We photographed our first lesbian wedding and it was one of the best weddings we’ve ever shot. We are in the beginning process of suing a car manufacturer for the Lemon of a vehicle they sold us. We finally, after five years of saving, got to spend over a week in Hawaii together and had the time of our lives. Our past home owner’s insurance was beyond unhelpful which resulted in us purchasing a brand new roof, out of our own pocket! We met Courtney Cox, Heather McMahan, Tommy Lee, Chris Delia, Brantley Gilbert, and Matt Nathanson, again- all of which were polite, kind, and charming. I struggled with PCOS health issues, which was challenging. We launched our own YouTube channel which has been so much fun learning about a new social media platform. We’ve had people step in and show up for us, when we trusted and affiliated ourselves with those who misled us. We started offering videography as an additional add on to our business. The support we’ve received from our new endeavor has blown our minds. We have friends from all walks of life struggling with difficulties that range from loneliness, illness, depression, uncertainty, and friends who are grieving the loss of their close loved ones. Our associate Madi’s business is absolutely booming and she has contributed far more to KGP than we ever could have imagined.
I post all of this to show you with growth comes hardships, with success comes failures, with happiness comes grief, with joy comes sorrow, with strength comes weakness, and to enjoy the rainbow, you have to first endure the rain.

Shelly garrard - From this proud momma & daddy, ya’ll were/are amazing at what you do! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for not only being the BEST team of photography, but “friends” as well. ❤️ We continue to highly recommend you!! After all the bells (go dawgs!) were rung, left over cake packed up & we all danced the last song, you guys hung strong through a long & STORMY day. Our outdoor event being moved inside at last minute never threw ya’ll off at all! You stayed calm & that made us calm (which is huge!😉)

Cedar Hall Engagement- Memphis Wedding Photographer- [Allison + Jordan]

Both Cedar Hall and Heartwood Hall are absolutely dreamy, which is why Allison and Jordan took advantage of BOTH gorgeous venues!

Allison and Jordan are getting married THIS weekend at Heartwood Hall, and we cannot wait to do photo and video for them. Since they knew they would already get tons of photos at Heartwood, they figured having their engagement photos done at Cedar made most sense! We absolutely love when our couples do that. At their engagement session, we got to meet their adorable pup, Archie, who I instantly fell in love with. JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE.

Allison and I are actually sorority sisters! We weren’t ever in the chapter at the same time, but we were always social media friends, and I loved watching her journey through Alpha Gam, and watching her relationship with Jordan grow through photos. John and I were absolutely thrilled she asked us to capture her most special day.

Who would have guessed a blind date would lead to these two saying I do, just two and a half years later. As always we asked Allison and Jordan what their favorite thing about each other is. I love what they both said.

Allison: My favorite thing about Jordan is how much he cares for me. We joke about how much we’ve been through in our short time together, but it is true. We have both experienced such devastating losses in our lives and been through these together, and that has made our relationship stronger. Jordan always strives to help comfort me and pray for me daily. He is a great example of a Godly man.

Jordan: My favorite thing about Allison is how caring and loving she is of others. She is genuine in everything she does and keeps my head on straight and my eyes on the prize in whatever endeavor I take on.

These two are made for one another, and it’s clearly evident. We are SO EXCITED to be photographing their wedding this weekend at Heartwood Hall. We’ll get to work with some amazing vendors such as John Mark Enterprises and Maggie Louise.

I’ll leave you with one of my MOST favorite things Allison and Jordan said about their relationship:

I think we both knew we were meant for each other when we went to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Orpheum last winter. We ate at Spindinis (that we now always go to before going to the Orpheum), and enjoyed each other’s company so much. I think we both had that feeling of –“I could drink wine and go to Orpheum shows with you forever. You are my person.”

Annesdale Mansion Engagement- Memphis Wedding Photographer [Adee + Austin]

Did you know Annesdale Mansion will let you bring your ADORABLE PUPPY to your engagement session?! Meet Adee, Austin, and Delta! Aren’t they just the cutest?

Adee and I both went to college together and we rushed the same year. We were both in different sororities, but I remember thinking Adee was so adorable and kind. When she reached out about John and I photographing their wedding this November, we were ecstatic. These babes are getting married next weekend at Annesdale Mansion and we are PUMPED to be a part of their celebration!

Adee and Austin brought their sweet pup Delta to the beginning portion of their engagement session. They had Holliday’s Flowers make sweet Delta a floral crown to wear for photos. Naturally, I could barely contain my excitement when meeting Delta, but thankfully pulled it together because one of the photos we took went viral! Who wouldn’t double tap a photo of this sweet face?!

Adee and Austin have been in each other’s life for years, but Austin proposed on December 2nd, 2018. I asked Adee to tell me about their relationship, and one part of their story really stood out to me. Adee said:

“Our love story is not one out of a fairytale book, but it is beautiful to me because we overcame adversity to fight for each other and built a love that is ours.”

In a world where statistics say 50% of all marriages end in divorce, it’s so refreshing to see a couple who fought for their relationship and won.

I asked both Austin and Adee what their favorite things about each other is, and I have to share what they both said:

Austin: How she has become part of my family and takes them in as well. Some of my favorite memories are of us with my nieces, spending time at my grandmother’s house and how she is always willing to go with the flow.

Adee: His sense of humor. I can be my complete self around him and I wouldn’t want anything different for my forever. There is never a dull moment – Example: his latest endeavor is telling a new joke each day and they are so bad, they are funny.

We cannot wait to celebrate with Adee + Austin next weekend! Enjoy!

Collierville Engagement Session- Memphis Wedding Photographer- [Megan + Josh]

Megan and Josh’s Collierville engagement session is a crowd favorite. Seriously, I can’t tell you how many people sent me DM’s asking where these photos were taken. Unfortunately this location is a private residence, but Megan and Josh got the hookup and we’re so glad we got do their photos here.

When our couples ask “Can we bring our dogs?” I usually respond with “I assumed you were, duh!” But seriously, I think all photographers agree we love getting to interact and photograph our couple’s fur babies! Meet Megan, Josh, Indy, and Jud. Aren’t they just the cutest family of four you ever did see?

We always love asking our couples what their favorite thing about each other is, and of course Josh’s response made our hearts swell.

“I honestly can’t pin point my favorite thing about Meg, because I find myself discovering new things all the time. Her passion and wholeheartedness in everything she does. Her love for sports and the outdoors. Her love for dogs. Her goofy laughter. Her love for food. Her ability to never meet a stranger and take over conversations so I don’t have to talk as much. Her love of Jesus. Everything I’d hoped and prayed for in a wife is Megan Henry to a T and if I really had to choose my favorite thing it would be getting to do life with her.”

What Megan said she loved most about Josh was also so refreshing to hear:

My favorite thing about Josh. Wow, I really do not know where to begin. My entire life up to meeting Josh, the one thing that has always been the absolute most important thing for my future husband to have is a real, true relationship with Jesus. I cannot image someone that could be a more perfect father and role model for my future children. From the second I met him I thought to myself, “Shoot what do I do?? This guy is exactly what I have been praying for my entire life. I have never met one of these guys. I didn’t think these kinds of guys actually existed, thank you Jesus!! Please please please please let this be the one”. Well, by the grace of God, I have tricked Josh’s butt into spending the rest of his life with me!! In addition to his love for the Lord, I love his calm, laid-back nature that meshes so well with my loud and energetic personality. He is very good at taking me down the few notches that I need so badly. I love his love for sports, food, and all things chocolate! Which is not the absolute best thing because, I also have a love for food and all things chocolate. But, we are working on this thing called “will-power”. Also, Josh and I are both extremely competitive people. We are very good at making the simplest things a blast because they always end up to be some sort of competition. With soccer and sports consuming most of my life, I kind of jokingly/not really jokingly have always said I have to marry someone that is either just as athletic as I am or even more athletic. This is solely because I am determined to have some athletic kiddos and be a dang good soccer mom!! (or whatever sports they choose to play, God willing they want to play sports haha) So with all this said, Josh is super athletic and I love that about him. Lastly, family is something that is very important to me and I absolutely love Josh’s family and how close they are.

Are these two an actual match made in Heaven or what? John and I feel SO thankful to have been a small part of such a special time in Megan and Josh’s life. It’s so wonderful to see God’s perfect timing in his match making abilities. Megan + Josh are getting married THIS weekend at Spring Creek Ranch Weddings and we cannot wait to celebrate alongside them! Y’all enjoy!

Downtown Memphis Engagement- Memphis Wedding Photographer [Mallory + Grant]

Who doesn’t love a downtown Memphis engagement session, and who doesn’t just LOVE Mallory + Grant? To know them is to love them. People that Mallory + Grant have never even met have told me how adorable they are, they really are THAT COUPLE.

John and I first met Mallory at a wedding at Annesdale. She was working for Malik (my “little brother”) and I said “Oh MY GOSH YOUR HAIR, IS IT REAL?!” She laughed and said yes, I’m sure she gets that question a lot. Little did I know, her hair was one of the MANY beautiful qualities I’d soon love about Mallory.

Mallory has a heart of pure gold. She radiates positivity and is the biggest hype woman I know. Mallory comments on all of our posts, even when they aren’t of her. She is so loving and SO supportive. She’s like that with everyone, her family, her friends, and her IG friends she’s never even met before. The world needs more Mallorys.

We didn’t know Grant until their engagement session, but it took less than a second to realize he’s just as wonderful as Mallory. He’s genuine, a hard worker, and let me tell you- this boy LOVES Mallory. It’s so evident. During Mallory + Grant’s engagement, John and I have loved getting to know these two. We watch their Instagram stories and our hearts are so full over them. You can find a typical 23 year old couple at the bar, or dancing at Raifords on the weekend. Not Mallory and Grant, nope, they are working out (then eating Mexican food, you know, balance) and taking long walks with their dog. They’re entirely satisfied doing absolutely nothing, as long as it’s together.

Funny story about this engagement session. During their second outfit change, Mallory gets out of the car laughing hysterically. When I asked what was so funny, she holds up TWO different shoes. Instead of having an epic meltdown like most girls would, she had tears of laughter streaming down her face. I let her borrow my black flats (even though I’m an entire size bigger than her, hahaha) but it turned out fine.

These two babes are getting married THIS weekend at Orion Hill. It’s our first ever wedding at Orion and we’re so excited to finally be shooting there! It’s going to be one epic wedding.
