Annesdale Mansion Wedding

Ever seen an Annesdale Mansion brunch wedding? Me neither until Libby + Joseph’s wedding!

Libby + Joseph had one of the most unique, quaint, intimate weddings we’ve ever been a part of, and we felt honored they chose us to capture their most special day. We knew we’d love working with these two the second we met them at our house.

Would you believe me if I told you Libby is a vegetarian and Joseph is a butcher? You cannot make that up. Despite the difference in opinions, these two fell in love and we’re so glad that they did. Libby and Joeseph are so artistic, kind, helpful, and supportive. Libby and I (since their wedding) have chatted multiple times about working out. She has 100% motivated me on days where I didn’t think I could muster up the energy to be active, and she has said super encouraging things to me when she sees me putting in hard work. We love when our couples allow us to stay in their lives long after their day has come and gone.

This was the first time John and I had photographed a wedding ceremony at Annesdale that wasn’t in the garden. Libby + Joseph chose to have their ceremony underneath the historic magnolia trees that tower over the property. These magnolia trees are documented in Roberta Seawell Brandau’s seminal 1936 book, History of Homes and Gardens in Tennessee, published by the Garden Study Club of Nashville. Libby + Joseph’s reception was held in the garden, and since it was a brunch themed wedding the buffet was filled with chicken and waffles, dry aged sirloin and Delta grits, potato hash, and buttermilk biscuits and chocolate gravy. They also had a bloody Mary + mimosa bar that was a crowd favorite.

Needless to say, Libby + Joseph had a gorgeous October wedding we will never forget. One of my most favorite and most memorable parts of Libby + Joseph’s day was when they read their notes to each other. It was such a special moment that I know I will never forget!

Thank you, Libby + Joseph for allowing us to capture this incredible day!

Brittany + Jesse’s Memphis engagement photos are some of our favorite!

Would you believe me if I told you that Brittany and Jesse’s story began with a brownie? YES, you heard that correctly. It all started with a brownie. I asked Brittany + Jesse how they met, and I LOVE the way Jesse told his side of the story.

Jesse: “I first saw Brittany from across the 3rd floor in the library while I was studying. I was in a room with a few other people & I asked them if they knew her. One girl said yes & explained to me that Brittany was a Sophomore Chi O. The next thing I said was that she was gorgeous & that I was going to marry her. I really needed an excuse to go up & talk to her because I was too nervous to just go up and try and generate a conversation out of thin air. The people in the room came up with a bet, which I ended up losing so I had to go up and offer her a brownie. I nervously approached her, introduced myself, and then offered her my brownie. She declined quickly and I️ told her to have a good night. Almost 3 years later we are well on our way to spending the rest of our lives together.”

Brittany may have declined the brownie, but little did she know she would quickly be reintroduced to Jesse again.

Brittany: “Jesse and I met in college at Union in Jackson, TN. Jesse first saw me in the library, in which he came up and offered me a brownie (first thought- “Why is some weird guy interrupting me and offering me food.) Without any more though of him, I continued studying and moved on with my day. A few days later, I find out my sorority intramural softball team was getting a coach (WHAT? Why would the lowest team need a coach, I mean there was no hope for us anyway). Come to find out, Jesse coached our team, and even schedule practices with the help of my friends. Although it took awhile for me to come around, and a few missed baseballs, we have been together now for 3 years and are so glad everything fell into place the way it did!”

Brownies and baseball is all it took for these two sweet souls to find each other.

We had so much fun hanging out with Brittany and Jesse at their engagement session at Overton Park. These two are so natural together, and you can really tell they are best friends. We love that about them. One of our favorite things about Brittany and Jesse’s relationship is how they just giggle together. Not only is it a sign of happiness, it’s a sign of comfort knowing you’re in the arms of someone who is happy to have you.

We get to photograph Brittany and Jesse’s wedding THIS weekend at White Oak Farms and we’re flipping ECSTATIC! You guys enjoy!

When Katie told me she wanted her and Mario’s engagement session to be at a greenhouse, I got so excited! Meet Katie + Mario!

From the first interaction- we KNEW we had to shoot Katie + Mario’s wedding. Just look at the way Katie inquired:

“Hi! So this is crazy but you took a picture of my fiancé (crazy to say) (Mario Ovelar…legit making me name drop because you are friends on facebook) at Brad and Jess’ wedding when we were barely a couple. I eventually ended up following you on social media have have continued to tell Mario how much I love your work. It might be premature because we only got engaged tonight but I always told him I couldn’t wait to reach out once we finally got engaged. I have been planning on a spring wedding since I was little so that’s my time frame 3 hours into being engaged. Would love to set up an appointment I know you are pretty booked in April but pending venues and etc I would love to talk more in person! Sorry for using engaged too much…still new ya know?”

John and I photographed Jessica + Brad’s wedding five years ago and Katie + Mario were both there. I am SO glad I snapped a photo of them back then because NOW we get to photograph their wedding this August. I actually knew Mario from the dozens of mutual friends we have in common, and college. Katie is originally from Florida, so I didn’t get the privilege of knowing her until these two got engaged. Mario is a crowd favorite, but Katie totally gives Mario a run for his money, because Katie is the actual best (you know I’m right, Mario!)

These two were supposed to get married this month, but COVID19 had different plans for them. I keep trying to imagine if this was happening to John and I when we were engaged, how I’d react. I’m sure I’d chop my hair off or dye it all the neon rainbow colors, and be the angriest Kelly Ginn there ever was. While I’m sure Katie + Mario had their moments, they’ve dealt with this situation from a humorous angle. Katie posted a letter board recently that said “Almost Mrs. Overlar… again.” They spent their original wedding date (May 2nd, 2020) at their wedding venue with Coronas (the good kind) and later that night had a picnic with pizza. That day John and I got a venmo payment for Lennys (what we eat every wedding day before we get to work.) John and I were speechless. On a day that was SUPPOSED to be all about these two, Katie was thinking of us. How selfless is she?

Katie + Mario’s engagement session was a blast and eventful. We met a stray cat, got the sprinklers turned on us while shooting in one of the greenhouses, (Katie + Mario made a MAD dash outta there) we saw a rainbow, AND these two popped a bottle of Veuve (and brought cups to share- again, how selfless?)

My mom loves all of our couples, duh, but for some reason she is OBSESSED with Katie + Mario. She cried reading Katie’s Instagram post about having to postpone and said “She is the cutest bride I’ve ever seen.” She aint lying.

Katie + Mario- we CANNOT wait for August and we are throwing down TWICE as hard when that sweet day comes! XOXO

Who doesn’t love an Annesdale Mansion engagement session?

Meet Laura and Aaron, two of our favorite people. We met them for the first time at their engagement session at Annedale Mansion, where these two will be getting married at in June. They are both so kind, so loving, and it’s clearly evident how smitten they are with each other. Laura and Aaron made our job easy, and part of that is because you can tell they genuinely have fun just being together. We love and admire that about them.

These engagement photos were taken on such a gorgeous day in the Fall of last year. There is never a bad time to take photos at Annesdale, but as you know, Fall has a special place in our hearts.

Per usual (because we just can’t help ourselves) we asked Laura how the proposal happened and she gave us ALL the details.

On a Sunday in June we started off the day by going to church. We went to lunch and then went back to my house. I cleaned most of the afternoon. Aaron said he wanted to take Nova to the new dog park on the island and then go eat at Tug’s. They allow dogs on the porch so it was perfect! It was coming up on our 2 year anniversary and he wanted to just spend time together having fun with Nova and I. We headed downtown with Nova in the car, got to the dog park and she was not interested in playing at all. She just wanted to sniff all the new smells and we couldn’t even get her to chase after a ball- which is very odd because she loves to fetch! After about 10 minutes at the dog park, Aaron started acting really odd and said, “Lets go walk by the river with Nova”….He wanted to go down close to the river and I said no because I was scared of snakes and that Nova would try to jump in the water which would be my worst fear!! Aaron pulled my arm and we ended up going down there. He stopped me once we had walked a little bit and said some really sweet words, he got down on one knee, told me to look at Nova’s collar and it said “Say yes mom!” he then popped the question! I was so caught off guard yet so happy at the same time. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN (which is odd b/c I usually figure things out). His roommate Reed was up on the top of the hill taking pictures of it all! Nova was just interested in the water and wanted to jump in! lol….I have a picture to show how she was pulling on the leash to get into that water. Reed took some pictures of just us, then Aaron blind folded me and told me we weren’t going to TUGS. I was like what??? I’m so confused. We showed up to a house, he walked me to the door, took off the blind fold and I saw all of our family and friends inside!!!! We all ate dinner together and popped champagne! It’s one of my most favorite nights.”

We are such suckers for proposal stories, especially when they involve fur babies. We absolutely cannot wait to celebrate with Laura + Aaron in June at Annesdale Mansion. The world needs more people like these precious souls!

You guys enjoy!

Cedar Hall was the perfect location for Jennifer and Jeff’s intimate ceremony.

We met Jennifer, Jeff, and Aiden for the first time at Heartwood Hall, where we did their engagement session. We loved getting to know them and even got a few photography tips and posing suggestions from Aiden, Jennifer + Jeff’s son. They really are such a sweet family, and we’ve love following their lives via social media since their wedding.

Not only are Jennifer and Jeff both MEGA babes (I mean, that’s obvious) they are also so kind, so genuine, so intelligent, and so loving. When they aren’t hustling at work, you can find them hustling at the gym, cheering on the Memphis Tigers AND Tennessee Titans, golfing with Aiden, or snuggling with their cat.

Jennifer and Jeff decided to have an intimate wedding with just their closest friends and family, and just Aiden in their bridal party. John and I agree that’s exactly how we would do it today, if we were engaged.

Jennifer got her gorgeous gown from Maggie Louise and it was so flattering on her. The train with the veil was absolutely breathtaking. Kasey Acuff did Jennifer’s makeup and she was absolutely glowing all night. Misty Davis did an excellent job styling Jennifer’s hair, and John Mark blew everyone away with the wedding day florals. The Flour Garden provided the most delicious cake that John and I may or may not have had piece of.

You guys enjoy!
