As if the Memphis Botanic Gardens isn’t already dreamy enough, just add Payton and Ryan (and lets not forget Lily!)

John and I actually met Payton almost three years ago when we photographed her brother’s wedding. Little did we know, three years later we would have the amazing opportunity to spend time with Payton and her family again. Payton and Ryan are getting married this weekend at Collierville United Methodist and their reception will be held at Windyke Country Club. We’re so looking forward to their special day, and cannot wait to work alongside some amazing vendors such as: Kasey Acuff, Emily Cohen, Maggie Louise, and The Soul Shockers (just to name a few.)

Payton and Ryan really wanted spring engagement photos and John and I knew the trees at Memphis Botanic would be in full bloom. These blossoms were out of this world and definitely some of our most favorite Spring engagement photos. We were lucky enough to meet Lily, Payton’s adorable and playful Golden Retriever. We love that so many of our couples want their fur babies included in their engagement photos.

We love getting to know our couple’s stories, how they met, all about their first date, the proposal, etc. When speaking with Payton and Ryan about their relationship, one part in particular really stood out to us.

Payton: “For the last two years, for many different occasions throughout dating, starting with our first Christmas together, we would write poems to each other. Sometimes the poems were congratulatory, or in the spirit of a holiday or birthday. Sometimes they were just to cheer each other up after an arduous week, as a unique way to express our feelings towards one another. It became a tradition of sorts, so Ryan thought it would only be fitting to write the proposal down in a poem, and then propose by reciting the poem.”

Chivalry is NOT dead, folks. I love that in this tech savvy world, where most couples just send “ILY” texts, Payton and Ryan express their love for one another with pen and paper. I can’t help but think of their grandchildren or great grand children one day reading the lovely words that their grandparents wrote to  one another.

Payton and Ryan, we cannot WAIT for your wedding this weekend!

We always love shooting Cedar Hall weddings, and Becca and Connor’s was no exception.

Remember this adorable couple’s engagement session downtown?

We absolutely loved Becca and Connor’s energy at their engagement session and knew their wedding day would be the exact same. Becca got ready at her precious grandma’s house which was so lovely and natural light just poured into each room. It was a photographer’s dream.

One of our most favorite memories about Becca and Connor’s wedding was their ring bearer’s pillow. Becca and Connor’s favorite books, “The Giver” and “East of Eden.” Both Becca and Connor love spending time reading together, so it only made since that their ring bearer’s pillow be their favorite books. We loved all of the little personal touches sprinkled throughout their special day.

Becca’s maids wore shades of pale blue and grey which was perfect for an early Fall wedding. Becca wore a flower crown made of baby’s breath along with her grandmother’s veil. She looked so elegant and timeless. Becca and Connor decided to stick to tradition and not see each other until the ceremony. We were lucky enough to snag a few minutes of the golden hour for bride and groom portraits, and MAN, our photographer hearts SWOONED over them.

The dance floor was packed the entire reception. Good food was eaten, and great times were had. It was such a memorable night that we are so thankful to have been a part of.

Becca and Connor, you guys rule!

Adrianne and Ben’s wedding reception at Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee is about to BLOW you away.

When Adrianne initially contacted me about her wedding in Nashville, John and I were so excited about potentially photographing it. When she let us know she wanted to hire us, I feel confident that John and I did an actual happy dance. Adrianne and I just totally clicked from the first initial inquiry. This sweet couple are both so relaxed, so genuine, and completely trusted the direction John and I gave them as their photographers throughout their entire engagement.

Adrianne and Ben live in Nashville so we did a lot of emailing to plan out their engagement session. They actually wanted to do their engagement photos here in Memphis, and Adrianne requested “Fall photos.” John and I knew just the place. We did an early morning shoot at the Memphis Botanic Gardens, and we absolutely loved Adrianne and Ben’s natural chemistry. Since their wedding was in July, it was nice to have an entirely different season and vibe for their engagement photos.

Adrianne and Ben got ready at their reception venue Schermerhorn Symphony Center which was absolutely jaw dropping. Both John and I don’t always consider ourselves easily impressed, but rest assured Schermerhorn blew our minds. Their ceremony was at Scarritt Bennett, which John and I call “the Hogwarts’ chapel.” It’s absolutely stunning and has gorgeous archways that make for DREAMY bride and groom portraits. We were able to work alongside of Adrianne’s wonderful wedding planner, Linley Stokes and her team. Both John and I were so appreciative of how helpful and prompt Linley and her team were. We totally recommend Linley and hope to work with her again soon.

Adrianne’s dress was a Vera Wang, and as a fellow Vera Wang bride, I was absolutely awestruck by it. It was so classy and delicate, and just SO Adrianne. Their reception was hands down the most entertaining reception we have ever been a part of. The band was beyond talented, the cakes were not only delicious but also insanely creative, and the dance floor was full of wedding guests having fun with crazy hats and clear balloons FULL of rainbow confetti. You heard that correctly, balloons of RAINBOW confetti.

It’s safe to say it was an absolutely incredible night that we are SO happy we got to be a part of. Adrianne and Ben are such amazing people. Even though the wedding was a year ago, just a few weeks ago we received a handwritten card from them in the mail just thanking us for all of the memories. An entire year later, aren’t they just the best?!

Thank you so much Adrianne and Ben for the honor of capturing your most special day. We love you guys!

This Memphis urban engagement session is sure to blow your socks off.

The old saying we’ve all heard 1,000 times (customized to fit us individually) for Karlie and Mark is, “The couple that runs together, stays together.” That’s right, Karlie and Mark’s story starts off as running partners, and in my opinion it kind of ends that way too. Let me explain, but first, a back story. John and I met both Karlie and Mark at Karlie’s sister, Katie’s wedding last October. We absolutely LOVE Katie and Brent (and the whole Hughes’ family.) We couldn’t help but be a bit intrigued to see that Katie’s younger sister, Karlie, seemed very serious with a guy named Mark. How serious? SO SERIOUS they requested that he be in the family formal portraits! I jokingly told him “there was no turning back now” and he smiled and made a comment similar to “I wouldn’t ever want to.” Fast forward only a few weeks after Katie’s wedding, we saw that Mark popped the question. We are SO glad he did because now we get to shoot another Hughes’ wedding THIS August at Spring Creek Ranch!

When I asked Karlie how she and Mark met initially, here’s what she said:

“Mark and I both were on the student government my sophomore year and his junior year. In October, we were assigned to work the same shift at an event and spent the evening working together and getting to know each other. At the same time, I was training for a half marathon and was told he ran often and so I asked if he would run with me at night so I was safe. Over the next couple of weeks, we ran together and got to know each other more! In that past August, I had decided that I wanted to take a year to focus on myself so dating was not an option. So as feelings developed between Mark and I this became an issue. However, he didn’t want to take away from that so he told me he would wait until the end of the year! We spent that time getting to know each other better as people and became best friends. On August 22nd, he “officially” asked me to be his girlfriend and then proposed October 28th!”

I love that Karlie and Mark’s story started off as just running partners. They’ve ran many miles together, and they are about to run many more miles together on the best journey there is. Marriage.

When I asked Karlie what her favorite thing about Mark is, she said this:

“My favorite thing about Mark is how ridiculously smart he is. He definitely works incredibly hard but usually it just comes naturally to him!! Also, how he is so obsessed with Jesus and he seeks to glorify Him every day!!”

Mark had a similar response to Karlie’s:

“How she loves the Lord and will always go on an adventure with me. She helps me to never settle for being boring. She always encourages and pushes me to be the best man I can be.”

When I think of sweet Karlie and Mark, I couldn’t help but think of that quote “Run as fast as you can towards God, and if you find someone who keeps up, introduce yourself.” They are passionate about not only their relationship with each other, but also their relationship with the Lord.

We are so very excited for August 4th. You guys enjoy!
