Bonnie+Zac-Engaged

You guys, meet Bonnie and Zac.

Their story goes all the way back to high school. They aren’t technically high school sweethearts, but hearing Bonnie tell stories from high school, just HAD to be mentioned in this post!

We actually owe a giant thanks to our sweet friend, Courtney, for sending Bonnie and Zac over to us!

When Bonnie and Zac came over to our house, we instantly fell in love with their sweet dispositions, and eagerness to start planning their wedding!

When we asked how the two met, Bonnie recounted memories from high school where she had full head gear, and Zac was Mr. High School. She told the story while laughing at herself, which makes the story all the more funny.

Later in life, Zac ended up messaging Bonnie on Facebook to see if she wanted to get together sometime. We’re so glad he did, because they make an amazing couple!

John and I love following these almost newlyweds on social media. They recently just bought a house together, and we absolutely love how excited they both are for this new adventure!

Bonnie and Zac are generous, loving, selfless, and absolutely hilarious. These love birds were a tiny bit late to their engagement session. Bonnie said she got into the car to head to the session, when Zac noticed her dress was entirely transparent. Where most girls would have a complete meltdown/panic attack, and called the entire session off, Bonnie did the sensible thing, ran into Target and got a slip and carried on. They laughed about it later, and still totally RULED this engagement session.

We can’t wait for July to hurry up and get here, you guys!

Allison+Wes-Engaged

Get ready for life as you know it to never be the same.

Meet Allison and Wes.

John and I are actually both friends with this great couple. They were even guests at our own wedding. Allison actually went to high school with both John and I. I remember seeing her in the halls, even though I was two years older. She was a MySpace queen, and although that may sound silly now, back then it was a real thing. I remember how striking her eyes were even at first glance. She was mesmerizing, and always will be. Fast forward to college. I had a class with Wes. In my mind I referred to him as “a real skater.” Not to be confused with Avril Lavigne’s ‘skater boy,’ or Sk8ter boi*. Nope, Wes was the real deal. I remember he didn’t talk much, but I do remember how talented he was. One time he did speak up and ask me if I knew Allison. I think even then I knew they were absolutely perfect for each other.

Wes has this protective/loyal vibe about him. I’m always quick to pick up on those types of things. He’s so great to Allison, and you can tell he always has her back, no matter what. He’s like a protector. Allison marches to the beat of her own drum, and she always has. She’s that girl that every single one of us want to be. She says what we think. It may make some people uncomfortable, but at least she knows who she is, and what she wants. That’s more than most of us.

When Allison and Wes mentioned Elmwood Cemetery as a possible location, I remember thinking “literally no one can tastefully pull that off, except them.” 100% true. Allison and Wes toyed around with the idea of visiting a skate park. John and I were totally pumped about this location. We love anything urban, graffiti, bright colors, etc. This very well may be our favorite engagement session to date. Allison and Wes were upfront about what they wanted. They wanted to be documented naturally, and not stiff or over posed. I love that Allison and Wes trusted our judgement. We feel that these images so accurately depict the passionate, emotional people they are. And they really are.

Luckily for us, we will be joining them for their wedding in New Orleans this March.

Can I get a HECK YES?

Sadie+Clayton-Dunleith Historic Inn Wedding- Natchez, Mississippi

If Sadie and Clayton look familiar to you, it very well could be because they are celebrities! Why are they celebrities, you ask?

BECAUSE……

Sadie and Clayton’s wedding has been featured on STYLE ME PRETTY!!!

John and I shot this wedding this past May, and have been itching to finally blog it. The time has come. Here’s a little flashback to their engagement session, aren’t they just adorable?!?

We met with Sadie early in 2013 about her 2014 wedding. The months rolled past, and it felt like it would never get here. We were so excited when May finally got here. Although the forecast called for rain, Sadie and Clayton remained hopeful. Right around lunch time, dark clouds rolled in and the bottom fell out. My anxious heart (along with everyone else’s) pounded. It only stuck around for twenty/thirty minutes, and we had blue skies and sunshine for the entirety of Sadie and Clayton’s day. It was SUCH a blessing. God is good.

Now, do I have the EPITOME of a Southern Wedding for you to drool over. BE.STILL.MY.HEART.

How is this for southern? We’re talking seersucker suits paired with Patina striped ties from the Tie Bar (with custom engraved tie clips), an Antebellum Historic Inn (Dunleith Historic Inn) that dates back to the 1790′s in one of the most charming cities I’ve ever laid these blue eyes on (Natchez, Mississippi), and stunning spanish moss that draped over 100+ year old trees. Dunleith Historic Inn has a Greek revival design and includes 26 Tuscan columns built of brick and stucco. (Which literally just translates to perfection.) HAVE I MENTIONED THERE WAS AN ADORABLE GREENHOUSE? (Oh trust me, there’s more than one or two images of the greenhouse!) It was literally the most charismatic venue I have ever seen. Giant magnolia trees lined the driveway, and provided the most prefect back drop for bride and groom portraits. Sadie and Clayton spent hours dancing and snuggling under these monumental giants. The bridal party wore the preppiest attire so well. It all so perfectly fit with the venue. The bridesmaids wore a lush Kelly Green Love Lane dress that popped against their bouquets filled with cotton, succulents, and garden roses. The flower girls wore white smocks with green embroidered monograms and white flower crowns. White fruitwood folding chairs gleamed in the sun as the aisle chairs were lined with cotton and magnolia leafs. It was a charming southern affair. In fact, I don’t think it gets anymore southern than this.

Both Sadie and Clayton told us that they 100% trusted our opinion and preferences on the bride and groom portraits. Sadie blocked off plenty of time during her day to be able to walk around the gorgeous venue. She didn’t want to be rushed at all, and I can honestly say, she has SO many pictures to show for her good planning. Sadie and Clayton’s families were absolutely amazing, so supportive and helpful. They raised incredible children, and John and I felt so honored to be there spending time with them all.

Sadie and Clayton, you two are beyond wonderful. We look back at your wedding, and still shake our heads with amazement! Thank you for trusting us to document such special memories. We’ll forever be thankful!

Brynn+Luke-A Cedar Hall Wedding

Remember sweet Brynn and Luke? And how could you forget Brynn’s gorgeous bridal session at Cedar Hall?

John and I had been waiting in anticipation all year for this wedding, and it was even lovelier than we could have even imagined.

A giant HOOOORAYYYY to Brynn and everyone who helped make this wedding so entirely gorgeous, and another GIANT hooorayyy because this wedding was featured on The Bridal Theory.

Everything about Brynn and Luke’s special day was magical. There wasn’t a cloud in sight, and all of the vintage frills just added to the already so lovely Cedar Hall. Brynn and Luke wisely decided to see each other before the ceremony, which provided them with ample opportunities for bride and groom portraits (the tip top of our/Brynn’s priority list.)

I’m sure you’ve heard us go on and on about how precious this couple is to us. Brynn didn’t see us as vendors on her wedding day, she saw us as John and Kelly, the spastic but helpful photographer friends. She passed out bridesmaid’s gifts, and included ME in them? WHAAAATTTTT? Yes, both Brynn and Luke are extremely generous. Back when we did their engagement session, Brynn sent me gold glitter Kate Spade Keds, and even sent John a gift card. I mean, dream couple?!?! Both of their parents must be SO proud of the children they raised, and how GREAT is God for leading them together?

Speaking of their families, BOTH Brynn and Luke’s family came over (on more than one occasion) and said “thank you for working so hard.” It’s totally what we’re there for, but lets be honest, everyone loves a little affirmation. Both parents knew us by our names, not “the photographers” which also feels great. Both of Brynn’s parents are extremely supportive to both John and I on Facebook, and that means the WORLD to us.

Ok, ok. I’ve got to stop and get to the goods!

Brynn and Luke, it was SUCH an honor to spend the day with you! We’re thankful to share these memories with you!

Ellie+Nathan-Engaged

These adorable kids are getting married THIS weekend.

(And I am EXTREMELY behind on blogging.)

Ellie may look familiar, because this is the second time she’s been featured on the blog. Not only is Ellie absolutely stunning, she’s also FULL of whit and charm. Nathan is honestly her other half and we love the way they are together. We actually met Ellie through one of our favorite florist, Michael Doyle of Lynn Doyle Flowers. She told me that she had inquired about an April wedding date, and I was already booked. I later got another email from Ellie explaining their date had changed. I was ecstatic when I realized WE were going to get to be the lucky souls that had the honor of documenting such a special time for both Ellie and Nathan.

Since our initial meeting, Ellie and I have become great buds. We often get to see each other in passing at weddings, and have similar opinions on most things. It’s super nice to have someone who dislikes the same things as you. Hahahaha!

These two lovebirds are comfortable in their own skin, and that is a rarity these days. One quote that comes to mind when I think about Ellie and Nathan is from the movie, We Bought a Zoo. “I’m a big fan of people being exactly who they are.” 110% Ellie and Nathan.

Ellie and Nathan also share a love for dogs (let’s be honest, I don’t trust people who don’t love dogs.) They brought Brinkley, their sweet pup, along to the session. He’s a Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever. He pretty much stole the show, understandably so.
