The Ginns in San Francisco

I have a confession to make:

I’ve been coveting our San Francisco images.

If you follow us on Instagram @kellyginn22 & @johntginn (and if you don’t please do) you may have noticed a “slight” obsession with the city by the bay.

I’ll admit it, I was entirely sold even before I got there. I would get strange looks and weird head tilts when my friends would ask “have you ever been?” I would blush and stutter…. “n’ nooooo.” I did so much research, reading, stalking San Francisco blogs, San Francisco twitter and Instagram accounts, I was knowledgeable on just about every little detail a tourist who’d never been there could possibly know.

One of our dreams was to one day spread our wings and shoot a wedding in San Francisco. With a lot of help from our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram friends, that goal was made possible. A GIANT thank you to Oscar, who runs the @NoWrongWaySF Instagram account for sharing our add and enabling Danielle and Phil to find us and actually agree to use our services. (This is just a quick thank you, Oscar, when I post Danielle and Phil’s wedding, I will be much more elegant and creative with my thankfulness.)

Why would I covet these images? Such a silly, strange thing to do.

San Francisco left such a mark on us (no really, so much so, the day we got back from S.F. John booked tickets for our second trip that happened one month later), that I almost just wanted John and I to keep it for ourselves. The images would just be memories for John and I to remember together. I just want to hold on to each and everyone of these images so I never forget how incredible the city by the bay actually is. That’s so selfish, which is why I am making myself blog these images. These images feel like I’m giving pieces of myself away. John feels the same way. Like I’m exposing myself to the virtual world. I started to wonder if I was the only one with such strong feelings about this formidable place, so naturally I took to the internet and look what I found:

John Steinbeck once said “You know what it is, it’s a golden handcuff with the key thrown away.”

And O. Henry said “East is East and West is San Francisco.”

One of my favorite guys, period said ” There is no question this is where I want to live, never has been.” -Robin Williams

Robert Kennedy said “I love this city. If I’m elected, I’ll move the White House to San Francisco.”

And Rudyard Kipling said “San Francisco has only one drawback- tis hard to leave.”  (Personally one of my favorites considering I had a breakdown on the plane ride home the first time we left. I mistakenly sat by the window and looked down and saw the glow of the city. I’m certain that everyone on the plane thought it was my first flight.)

Clearly, I am not the only human who is so passionate about the great city.

If I had to list my favorite thing about the city (and I mean if I could literally only have one favorite) I think it would be the hills and the brightly painted buildings that you can see from anywhere in the city. I was absolutely mesmerized.

John, thank you for keeping true to you vows, and always going on adventures with me. Thank you for letting me cry every time I saw the Golden Gate Bridge, and for taking one million selfies with me.

To all of our friends and family: THANK YOU for being excited for us, for liking all of our Instagram posts, and for putting up with how obnoxious we were on all forms of social media while we were there. We felt the excitement you had for us all the way in San Francisco, and we felt so LOVED. You made it that much more special for us.

I could write all day, but I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

xoxo

The second time we were there, I broke down on the cab ride to the airport. I looked back and could see Bernal Heights. I was so afraid I’d never make it back there and that I’d forget the magic of it all. The poor cab driver kept looking back at me, Lord knows what he was thinking. I could never forget San Francisco. It becomes a part of you.

Until next time, you sparkling city by the Bay…

One thing you are probably all asking yourselves is, “Is Red his real name?” haha, No it isn’t, it’s actually Nick.

From the very initial email, sweet Megan always referred to Nick as “the redhead.” I absolutely loved that she called him that. At one point I wasn’t even sure if she had EVER told me his actual name.

Megan was overly enthusiastic (in the best way possible) via emails. After a while, it just kinda felt like I was writing back and forth to an old friend. I remember Megan saying “We don’t have a date, but I KNOW I have to have you as our photographer.” I loved that she was so generous with her compliments, and was super psyched to meet this girl in person. When we were finally able to, we hit it off JUST like I had expected.

We feel so thankful Megan and Red liked us enough to include us in their special day.

Let’s talk about these engagement photos. I promise you, we rescheduled them due to weather like five different times. I began to wonder if we’d ever have clear skies. Luckily, we did catch a window of dryness, and I am SO glad we did, because these are some of our favorite engagements to date.

Megan let me know up front, several times that she was nervous, and afraid she and Nick would be awkward in these photos. I rolled my eyes (as I sit here STILL rolling my eyes) because they OWNED this session, like it was their day job.

I’m a tiny bit obsessed with Megan, oops I said it. She has this whole Jessica Biel feel to her, totally free-spirited, and absolutely stunning, am I right or am I right?

Megan and Nick, we simply cannot wait for this November to hurry up and get here!

Enjoy!

There is something SO special about Jessica and Brad.

Maybe it’s the quiet but sweet precious way they love each other, or maybe it’s Jessica’s darling freckles or maybe even the way Brad never lets go of her hand.

Whatever it is, we love it.

Jessica and Brad are THE REAL DEAL. No really, they have been together for nearly a decade, and they are still absolutely crazy about each other. I think John and I feel such a strong connection with them both because they too are high school sweet hearts. Dating in your late teens- early twenties can be challenging. You’re finally starting to mold into the person you’re becoming, and if you can manage to keep the flame alive for almost a decade, then that makes the reward of marriage even sweeter.

John and I did a celebratory dance when Jessica emailed us to tell us they wanted us to be the lucky folks to document their big day.  We honestly cannot think of two more deserving people, they are absolutely perfect for each other, and we’re so happy they found each other.

Jessica and Brad live in Harbor Town, so they wanted to do their engagement session downtown. We love exploring all of the alleyways and nooks downtown Memphis has to offer, and Jessica and Brad totally ruled this session.

We simply cannot wait for next May to get here! Until then, enjoy!

John and I are SO very happy to FINALLY be able to share these beauties!

Meet Ellie, you’re going to be seeing  A LOT of her. Let me start from the beginning.

Karlee, our sweet new friend from Propcellar reached out to us about doing a styled shoot to show off some of her AMAZING props, and funky cool new location! We were absolutely THRILLED that she asked us, and quickly began our hunt for the perfect model.

We didn’t have to look very long, because the perfect model was Ellie. Ellie is actually one of our October brides, and I knew her strawberry blonde hair, and bright crystal eyes (those have not been edited, y’all) would be perfect for this styled shoot.

There was ONE thing I knew that would really add some rustic flare to such an industrial urban atmosphere, a flower crown. So guess who I reached out to?

Lynn Doyle Flowers. If you want a flower crown done right for your wedding/engagement photos, or for any reason, be sure to give them a call!

If you haven’t ever heard of Propcellar, go ahead and climb out from what ever rock you’ve been hiding under, and go check them out, NOW! I was absolutely floored (in the best way possible) when I saw her inventory. Karlee only invests in the BEST vintage frills there are, and does an amazing job of keeping them in pristine condition. She has vintage couches galore, church pews of all colors and sizes, arbors, wooden doors, iron gates, I literally could write a novel. I only wish John and I would have known about Karlee when we got married. Wouldn’t Propcellar’s new location be one seriously amazing wedding venue? Memphis needs more industrial venues!

Brides, if you want your wedding to mirror the unique individuals you are, then give Karlee a call. She is so helpful, positive, and willing to do what ever she can to ensure your complete satisfaction.

Thank you Karlee, Lynn Doyle Flowers, and gorgeous Ellie for such a fun collaboration! You guys are some of Memphis’ best vendors!

Enjoy!

John and I are so excited to introduce our first 2015 couple, Laura and Nathan! (And by first I mean their wedding is literally on January 2nd, 2015!)

I could tell Laura was extremely lively and enthusiastic via email, and simply could NOT wait to meet her in person. When we were finally able to meet up, in only took a few short minutes for me to LOVE her. Laura came and met John and I with her precious momma. The four of us sat and chatted for what felt like hours. They were just so extremely easy to talk to. It honestly felt like we were catching up with old friends.

Laura is the type of girl who has never met a stranger. She has a calming way about her, which makes you feel like you’ve known her forever. She’s upbeat, positive, gleaming, and absolutely charming (I bet she gets such great traits from her momma!)

When Laura emailed John and I asking US to be her photographers, there may or may not have been a happy dance/high fives from J&K. We can’t help ourselves. One of our 2015 goals was “Only work with couples that are on fire for life.” Laura (and what we had heard of Nathan) totally fit that goal that now sits at the bottom of an aqua mason jar.

Laura and Nathan are saying ” I do.” at the historic Heartwood Hall. Laura wanted a little splash of variety in their engagement photos, so we decided to head down to Rhodes College (which if you ask me has a Hogwarts feel to it,) and then to Cedar Hall, Heartwood’s sister.

If I had to describe this engagement session in one word it would be, radiant.

The colors, the smiles, the light, the luscious green backdrop, and of course a pretty dang good looking couple on top of it all!

Laura and Nathan, we simply CANNOT wait for this coming January!

Enjoy these!
