Ashley DurhamLucky for me, God allowed my path to cross with Ashley’s.

You may recognize this exquisite young lady for many reasons; Free People magazines, Tony Bowls advertisements, billboards, oh and the Miss America 2011 competition where she represented Tennessee, just to name a very few. I could go on and on and on, literally.

When I think about Ashley, those amazing achievements aren’t my ‘go to’ memories. Don’t get me wrong, she’s accomplished more in her 23 years than most will ever in a lifetime, but sweet Ashley wonderful for so many reasons. When I think about Ashley, I think about the girl who would tackle me when I’d see her at a sorority event, or the girl who would text us daily devotionals (to this day, I’m still part of her email devotionals), I think about the girl who constantly includes John and I (as in a team) to tag along on any Memphis adventure she may take part in. I think about the down to earth, sports loving, bare foot runnin’, free spirit, loyal sister of mine. I think about the sweet girl that checks in and cares enough to genuinely ask “How are you doing?” So in case you can’t tell, we are VERY fond of Ashley Durham in the Ginn family. She can do no wrong.

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with Ashley before, and she’s always been extremely supportive and nurturing with my career. Luckily Ashley agreed to join me on another test shoot, one year later. We actually shot these last September, I know, I know. That was six months ago, but better late than never, right?

We teamed up with some of our favorite vendors, and we really REALLY love how these turned out.

Tennessee catholic weddingYou may remember Hilary and  Cliff from their Autumn Huntsville engagement session. As we drove home from Huntsville, I remember John and I talking about how our favorite thing about Hilary and Cliff (because let’s be honest, we could write a book on all the reasons we love them) is how natural they are together. Their love is effortless, easy, and admirable. We knew documenting their special day would be fun, simple, and light, and boy were we spot on.

Hilary is one of the most amazing girls I’ve ever met. She’s spunky, (I mean look at her cocktail wedding dress) fun, intelligent, witty, genuine, loving, and downright beautiful. Her heart totally matches her appearance. Seconds before Hilary and Cliff drove off from their reception, she yelled out the window “Thank you Kelly, you guys are awesome!” Most brides get so caught up in the moment (understandably so) but not Hilary, she’s too intentional. Cliff, Cliff is ALL  kinds of awesome and compliments Hilary so well. He’s sweet, solemn, calm, gentle, and boy does he love sweet little Hilary.

Hilary and Cliff had a gorgeous day wedding at Hilary’s childhood church, St. Therese Little Flower. Its dreamy gothic-ish stained glass windows made for an impeccable backdrop for photos. We arrived a little before 8 a.m. and began shooting details. A few moments later, sweet Hilary arrived looking as calm as ever and she greeted both of us with a hug. I had previously met Hilary’s father, and adorable (and just as spunky) sister Jamie, and already loved her! John and I fell in love with Hilary’s entire family. Her brother, Timothy, totally deserves a shout out for simply being fabulous. He pinned basically every boutonniere on every member of the wedding party (something you’d think John and I would have mastered by now, but sadly haven’t). During the reception, as I was documenting Hilary’s thoughtful decorations, Hilary’s mom, Kelly, came over and thanked John and I and gave us some of the sweetest compliments. The entire family made us feel like so much more than just wedding vendors, and our hearts are so thankful for that.

Before I get all hippie-dippie on you guys, I’ll get to the goods!

Hilary and Cliff, if you’re reading this from Disney, know that John and I are jealous, but hope that you two are having a well deserved blast! We love you to pieces!

Enjoy!

ginns snow day

Memphis is one mild, mild place. When it’s hot, it’s hot, and when it’s cold it’s DANG cold. With that being said, today the weather was as extreme as it can get. In fact, last night I read that Shelby County was declared in a state of emergency. Schools were closed and everything. As I ‘type’ it is 21 degrees, and I still see sparkling snowflakes outside of my window. Today was John’s first day off from his full time job. He is currently working full time with me! It’s the most exciting adventure we’ve ever been on. We’ve been giggling since 5 o’clock Friday evening. John is wrapping up his masters in finance, but his night class was cancelled today, so he was able to catch up with me and play in the snow. It was absolutely freezing, but we never get such gorgeous, chunky snowflakes, so we obviously had to take advantage of it.

I hope everyone got to relax today, and admire God’s gorgeous creation!

Enjoy!

As I sit here and try to do this earth shattering story justice, I can’t help but worry I am incapable of doing so. Here goes nothing:

This is a proposal story of two very loved individuals.

Meet Claire and Jason.

Let’s back it up.

Claire is one of my sorority sisters. The first time I ever met her was 2008, and I could instantly tell that I liked her. She has a sweet calmness about her that words can’t describe. She’s loving, beautiful, Godly, creative, and as adorable as adorable gets. Six years later, I still consider Claire a great friend, role model, and just a down right great example of a Christian woman. About a year ago, I noticed via Instagram that Claire was becoming friendly with a boy named Jason.

On October 15th, 2013, I got an email from a boy named Jason. After reading it I realized “Oh, this is ‘Claire’s Jason.’ I had never met him, but had ‘double tapped’ several pictures of him and sweet Claire on Instagram. His message said this:

“Hey Kelly! This is Jason Baker, Claire Greene’s boyfriend! Love your work, and I know Claire admires who you are as an artist! Question, are you open February 1? I’m gonna propose to Claire that night and would love to hire you to be there to snap some photos! It’s gonna be at the Jack Robinson gallery downtown. Let me know your thoughts and we can go from there. Thanks a ton!”

I was smitten to be involved in such a special day, and agreed to document it. I proceeded to tell Jason that he was making a great decision on marrying Claire, and “she was the coolest girl I know.” And do you know what he said?

Best decision I’ve ever made, that and asking her to coffee.

I was HOOKED, right then and there.

(P.S. You may want to go ahead and grab some tissues, Jason’s thoughtfulness will bring you to tears, guaranteed.)

After MANY emails back and fourth, Jason’s plan started to unravel in the best way possible. Let me tell you, I have shot a TON of events, many of which are coordinated by professional event planners, and I’ve never seen such a well executed plan. It was seamless, absolutely perfect.

On February 1st, Jason and Claire’s one year anniversary, Jason deceivingly told Claire to meet him at Republic coffee, where it all began. When Claire arrived, she was met by Jessica.

Jessica then called Claire over to her to say hi. She then informed Claire that Jason was not there, and that she was going on a scavenger hunt instead. Our job was to follow Claire on each portion of the scavenger hunt. I felt a little bit like Harriet the Spy, and John joked that we were Mr. and Mrs. Smith (because that was my maiden name), but we definitely had a rush of adrenaline the entire time, as we tried so hard not to be spotted. Jason had each of Claire’s friends write her a note on a specific topic. Since that was the first spot Claire and Jason had ever hung out, Jessica’s topic was “What was the first thing you noticed about our relationship?” Jessica then took a photo with Claire, and sent her on her way to the next spot on the scavenger hunt WITH a mixed c.d. compliments of Jason himself.

Stop #2 was to meet Claire’s friend Gretchen at Brother Juniper’s, since that was the second date Claire and Jason ever went on. Gretchen’s topic for her note to Claire was “How has this relationship shaped your character?” Gretchen and Claire took a photo together, and then Claire was off to spot #3.

Stop #3 was where Claire met Loye.

(Side note: Claire and Loye are kind of like a two for one deal. When I think of Claire, I think of Loye. Two lovely souls.)

This spot was extremely significant. This is the very spot where Jason told Claire he was in love with her at 3am one morning. Crying yet?

Loye’s note’s topic was “When you look at this relationship, how do you know true love is present?” These cuties took a picture and Loye sent Claire on her way to stop #4.

Spot #4 was where Claire met her sister, Susan.

Spot #4 was the spot I was worried the most about. I had gone all three spots without being noticed, and I was terrified Claire would spot me on the 4th. Susan did a beautiful job of keeping Claire focused so I was not spotted. Spot #4 was Jason and Claire’s secret picnic spot, where they celebrated their 6 month anniversary, and talked about the promise of the future. Susan’s topic for her note to Claire was “How has this relationship cultivated joy in your life?” They took a photo together and Susan directed Claire to follow her to the last and final spot.

Spot #5 was where Claire would finally meet the protagonist, Jason, at the Jack Robinson Art Gallery. To her surprise, both of Claire’s parents were also standing there with Jason. After Claire greeted everyone with a hug, it was her dad’s turn to read his note to Claire. Claire’s parent’s topic was “How does this relationship embody what we’ve hoped and prayed for?”

(I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear or two as Claire’s sweet father said some of the most precious words I’ve ever heard.)

After Claire’s dad finished reading his note, they joined each other in prayer, and then Claire’s family headed upstairs.

Jason hired a band to play Ben Rector’s song “Forever Like That” as he and Claire danced.

And then, the band left….

And then..

John was upstairs waiting for their big entrance, along with about 100 friends and family!

Please note Jason’s adorable perfect hand gesture!

Then Jason explained to all of the guest exactly what event went on during the day.

Fun save the dates!

#JandCmakeawesome

And WE even got lucky enough to get a picture with these sweet kids!

I talked C+J into taking a few fun pics together in the Robinson

Words can’t describe how happy we were to take part in this proposal. We absolutely cannot wait to document your special day in November. #JandCmakeawesome

Happy and full hearts,

Meet the ever so adorable Cally and Mitchell. Remember Caitlyn and Zach? Cally is Zach’s cousin! Small world, right? Sweet Cally emailed me a few months ago to inquire about using US to document their special day. Needless to say, we were tickled pink that they liked our work enough to consider us. After a few emails and a phone call, it was official. I had to have them! We jumped for joy when we received word that we’re included in their special day, this March.

Cally and Mitchell drove all the way from Alabama to do a fun Memphis engagement session. Even though January in Memphis is completely unpredictable, we lucked out, and got a pretty decent day. It was extremely windy, but hey, it wasn’t six degrees like it has been lately.

These love birds requested somewhere fun! I knew just the place! Midtown! Bar Louie, the vibrant murals, exposed brick, etc, it’s just dripping with gorgeous backdrops. We wondered up and down Madison Avenue, not to mention Cally had the cutest Steve Madden wedges on and never complained once! Photographing these two was so simple because they are just so content with each other. I love the way they just ‘are’ together. At one point during the session, I stopped and said “Y’all just look like you go together.” They totally do, don’t they? Mitchell carried Cally’s coat around for her for when we walked from place to place so she wouldn’t be cold. I always notice things like that, and Mitchell and Cally’s care factor is at an all time high! I love that about them!

You guys, we simply cannot wait until March! Thank you for making our job so easy!

Enjoy!

Out of no where, the most giant gust of wind just took over. Needless to say, it made for super awesome photos!

So romantic!

Oh, did I totally forget to mention Cally is a model? She totally should be!

be still my heart! These colors!

Now we just need March to get here!!
